Hike of the Week - July 17

Yesterday we hiked up Granite Creek beyond
the Hot Springs. Megan and Calvin and their
family joined us. We hiked up the creek for 5.1 miles
for a round trip of 10.2 miles. The kids did great.
This was a beautiful canyon with a good trail.
I don't know that I have hiked anywhere prettier.
We found out why this is called Granite Creek.
A soak in Granite Hot Springs at the end of the hike
was a special bonus, and we ended the day with a picnic.
We got a good look at this end of the trail for a hike
from Goodwin Lake to Granite in a few weeks.

Hannah, Landon, and Gracie

Gracie got a little help going up the trail,
but made it most of the way back herself.

Hannah did a great job including carrying
the big pack most of the way back.

Landon went two miles for each one of ours.
Including checking out rocks, picking up sticks,
wading and other general exploring.

The small pinacle at the end of the ridge
behind us is right above the hot springs.
The 5.1 miles back was a lot farther
than the 5.1 miles up the canyon.

Nice !
The bench and flowers too.

The creek was beautiful and there were several
of these small tributaries along the way.

Hannah said these unkown flowers
were having a bad hair day.

There were lots of wild flowers, including Columbine.
The Columbine flowers were all white except this small
group which had some light lavender petals.
