Yesterday Mom and I returned to Crow Creek
to try again to find the cave and falls. I talked
to Rod Jensen and paid better attention to his
directions. We were really glad we tried again
and we found out that last week we were only
a couple of hundred yards away from it. We
were glad we came back on a day when it was
not raining, because it would have been dangerous
climbing around with the rocks and grass being wet.
This is when we first saw the cave and the photos
following are as we got closer.
The wildflowers were awesome.
I would guess the cave to be about fifteen
to twenty feet high, long and wide.
The creek comes down through a hole
in the roof and forms a small pool
in the bottom of the cave, and then
cascades out and down the canyon.
Mom felt it necessary to climb up and into the cave.
I felt it prudent to stay back and take her photos.
She assured me that I should not try it.
It was a very hot day and if you have a chance
for a cold shower, why not take it??
OK, so we had gone a little over six miles to the cave,
and we should return to the trail head, making a nice
twelve mile round trip, right? Nope. Mom insisted
that while we were this close we should hike up to
Crow Creek Lake. We had been here before,
but Mom couldn't remember it, even after I showed
her pictures of her there. So, we added another
steep four miles round trip to the Lake.
I have to admit it was prettier than I remembered,
but we both agreed that the sixteen plus miles
we hiked would have been enough for two days.
We also would like to start including time in our
plans to sit down and enjoy our destinations
for more than a few minutes.
We made it back to the trail head at about nine.
The sun had gone down, and the moon was rising
over the Wyoming Range. Another beautiful day!!!
