Gloria Mae Gentry Harris, born September 23, 1923 in Panaca, Nevada. I was lucky to have Grandma Gloria in my life until I was 17. I feel very blessed to have had her as my grandmother throughout my childhood. She was a great example to me of great womanhood....intelligent, articulate, determined, and with a strong testimony. I wish she were still here to make me 7-layer cookies and go dress shopping with....but I feel her spiritual influence in my life even to this day.

I was in 4th grade when Grandma died, but I still remember quite a bit about her. I so strongly remember her smell, and remember going into her HUGE closet full of tons of dresses and shoes. I remember thinking that she must be like a queen to have a closet like that! She was a wonderful Grandma, and Derek and I would like to have our new little girl's middle name be Mae after her.

Thank you for your comments, girls. I'm grateful she was able to be part of your lives. Today would have been Mom's 85th birthday! I miss her deeply, yet feel of her influence every day of my life. She taught me by example so many of life's important lessons. She was a model of womanhood and always encouraged me to be feminine, to use good manners in speech and action and how to interact with others. She impressed upon me the importance of education and encouraged and supported me, sometimes at great sacrifice on her part. She encouraged me to work hard to reach my potential. Mom was
a life-long learner and was one of the most knowledgeable persons I
have ever known. She was a gifted musician and though she had very little formal training, she could play the organ and piano and sing beautifully. She encouraged me in my musical efforts starting me on the piano at a very early age and always making sure I had the best teachers available. The years before I was born were difficult ones for her, having gone through a divorce and being a single mom for a time. She never expressed any regrets to me because those years had given her two beautiful sons whom she loved so dearly and who brough her much joy. I remember holding her in my arms as whe wept the day she learned of the passing of her first husband, Joe Schulthess. By this time she had also lost my dad. These were very tender times for her. Mom and Dad taught our family how to work. Summers were very busy for us. Mom and Dad always made sure I had Sundays off so I could attend Sacrament Meeting at Jackson Lake Lodge. Though they often could not attend themeselves, they made sure I was able to go. Mom had a strong testimony of the Gospel and encouraged me in church activity. She always accepted callings and worked hard to fulfill them. Mom was a strong woman, never more so than when she learned of her cancer. In her usual fashion she got busy preparing for her departure by writing her personal history, making all the funeral arrangements and even making me smile as she and I were preparing her burial clothing. I remember going to her "Going Away Party" with her brothers and sisters in Logan. It was a sweet and tender occasion with Mom smiling the whole time. I feel of her nearness often, especially when I attend the Idaho Falls Temple. She loved her calling as a Temple worker and I feel she is still doing the same work in the same place. Her mission to the Family History Library in Salt Lake was a great example to me, and I hope to be able to serve a mission someday, also. I honor her today and always. Happy Birthday dear Mother!

Thanks, Mom, Jennie, and Sarah for your comments on Grandma. I really appreciated the things that you said Mom. I don't really remember to much about Grandma since I was only in 1st grade when she died, but like Sarah, I remember her smell, all her pretty clothes, and just how pretty she always looked. I remembered she was smiling, even up until she died. From what you said Mom, she was an amazing women, and you have recieved so many wonderful qualities from her!
