Happy Birthday Jim

For Jim's birthday we went camping for two nights with Grandma and Grandpa at Slide Lake. Grandpa drove his motorhome and pulled his trailer behind. The first afternoon we drove up the Gros Ventre and took a canoe out on Soda Lake. Grandpa claimed there were big fish here - if there were any they are still there - we didn't see anything. After Soda Lake we continued up the Gros Ventre and fished in the river for a few minutes. Grandpa caught two and Jared and Jim drowned a few flies. The second day (Jim's Birthday) we lashed the canoes together and went out on Slide Lake. Lashing the canoes together made them real stable and when we got all four of us paddling in the same direction we could really go. The campground host said no one was catching fish - he laughed at our boat, but not at our fish. We came back in and cooked the fish and had a birthday dinner including cherry chocolate cake. We drove back up the river again and checked out the scenery. Friday morning we went back on the lake for awhile but the fish were still sleeping. We left about noon so Jared could get back to go camping with the Scouts. They hiked up Strawberry, spent the night and then hiked out the north fork of Willow Creek (12 miles).
